The Honourable Commissioner for Information in Akwa Ibom State, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to fostering a strong partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to effectively promote the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno’s administration.
Umanah made this pledge while receiving the executive members of the NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk, at his office. He commended the union’s leadership for recognizing Governor Umo Eno’s efforts in supporting the media and for congratulating him on his appointment.
Highlighting the crucial role of the NUJ in the state’s information ecosystem, the Commissioner described the Ministry of Information as the union’s “constituency” and assured journalists of continued collaboration to amplify the achievements of the current administration.
In his remarks, Comrade Amos Etuk expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for appointing Hon. Umanah as Commissioner for Information, describing the choice as a strategic one for strengthening media-government relations. He reiterated the union’s commitment to upholding professionalism and pledged its support in advancing the ARISE Agenda.
Etuk also emphasized the steady growth of NUJ membership in the state, which has increased from 400 to 798 under his leadership. He highlighted key initiatives in capacity building and welfare for members, assuring that the union would continue to collaborate with the state government in achieving shared development goals.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Akparawa James Edet, in a vote of thanks, applauded the NUJ leadership for its continuous synergy with the ministry, noting that such cooperation is essential in driving a responsible and progressive media landscape in Akwa Ibom.
The courtesy visit was attended by top officials of the Ministry of Information and executives of the NUJ, further reinforcing the spirit of collaboration between the state government and the media community.
