The Compliance and Monitoring Unit of the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Transport has successfully apprehended a suspected serial criminal, Mr. Wisdom Joseph Pius, who allegedly targeted women and unsuspecting commuters in Uyo.
Pius, who disguised himself as a tricycle operator, is accused of carrying out violent crimes, including physical assaults, sexual assaults, and thefts, particularly targeting female passengers.
His arrest followed a directive from the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Anthony Luke, after a viral social media post from a victim detailed his alleged activities and identified his tricycle. Acting swiftly, the Ministry’s compliance team tracked and apprehended him before handing him over to the police for further investigation.

Reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to public safety, Dr. Luke commended the victim’s courage in speaking out, emphasizing that her report was instrumental in bringing the suspect to justice. He also urged the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
“The Ministry is implementing additional measures to strengthen security in the transport sector and ensure the safety of all commuters,” Dr. Luke stated.
Meanwhile, ongoing investigations aim to uncover the full extent of Mr. Pius’s alleged crimes and identify any additional victims.
