Senator Ekong Sampson, representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, has earned commendation for his remarkable performance in the 10th Senate, marked by a robust legislative agenda and impactful constituency projects.
A distinguished lawyer and former state lawmaker, Senator Sampson has demonstrated a rare blend of intellect, dedication, and grassroots engagement. At the Senate, he has sponsored several strategic bills, including the Bill for the Establishment of the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi, which has already passed second reading. Others include the proposed Federal University of Medical Sciences in Eket, a Federal Medical Centre in Akwa Ibom South, and a Solid Minerals Development Fund, all currently on the Senate floor. Notably, he also seeks to amend the Child Rights Act to include anti-bullying provisions in primary and secondary schools.
The senator’s motions reflect a deep concern for national development and regional well-being. He has advocated for increased coastal security surveillance in Akwa Ibom South, urgent repairs of federal roads nationwide, and co-sponsored a motion for the reconstruction of the Calabar-Itu Highway alongside Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong.
Beyond the chambers of the National Assembly, Senator Sampson’s constituency interventions have touched multiple sectors. These include erosion control works in Ekeya, Okobo LGA, and the construction of ICT/CBT centres in Eket, Okobo, and Mkpat Enin LGAs. He has also facilitated the development of school infrastructure, opened farm roads in Mbo, Onna, and Mkpat Enin, and provided solar-powered streetlights and boreholes in several communities.
His empowerment programs have benefitted over 1,700 constituents through skills training, business grants, and educational support. More than 25 indigenes have secured employment opportunities through his facilitation, while media professionals have been trained in ICT and communication skills. He has also presented vehicles to deserving constituents and supported farming cooperatives with inputs and fertilizers.
Senator Sampson remains an active voice on the Senate floor and in committee engagements. His outstanding contributions have earned him the “Emerging Voice of the 10th Senate” award from the National Assembly Press Corps and the “5-Star Award of Excellence” for his commitment to educational development.
With a growing track record of impact and visibility, Senator Ekong Sampson continues to set a high bar for legislative service and grassroots representation.
