Elder Paul Bassey officially assumed office on Wednesday as the Honourable Commissioner for Sports in Akwa Ibom State, charging ministry staff to be disciplined, hardworking, and dedicated to duty.
Addressing the staff, Bassey expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to serve.
“While I lead from the front, we must brace ourselves to work tirelessly in order to actualize the sports contents of the ARISE agenda of His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno,” he stated.
He commended his predecessor, Sir Monday Ebong Uko, for his remarkable achievements, particularly in infrastructure development, and pledged to build on the existing foundation. Bassey also announced plans to diversify the ministry’s focus beyond football, with an emphasis on discovering and nurturing talents in other sports.
Welcoming the new commissioner, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Lady Rose Bassey, described him as a “square peg in a square hole” and assured him of the staff’s full cooperation and support.
The ceremony, attended by directors, coaches, and other ministry staff, concluded with group photographs to mark the occasion.
