By Solomon OKPO

The Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area and Akwa Ibom State Chairman of ALGON, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, on Monday hosted key stakeholders on workplace safety, staff welfare, and grassroots development.

Dr. Udo received the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team of the Akwa Ibom State Infrastructure and Asset Management and Maintenance Agency, led by Prof. Comfort Etok, at the council secretariat. Discussions centered on workplace safety, training and retraining of workers, and the need for the agency to take the lead in environmental recovery by reclaiming green spaces within government circles.

In a separate engagement with the State Executive of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), led by its President, Comrade Anestinah Igwe, issues concerning staff welfare, promotion arrears, and recruitment into the local government service were tabled.

Comrade Igwe commended Governor Umo Eno for the clearance of gratuities and pensions while applauding Dr. Udo for making staff welfare and infrastructure development a priority in Uyo. She described his leadership style as a rare model among local government administrations.

In his response, Dr. Udo assured that council chairmen across the state were committed to meeting staff obligations while also channeling resources to developmental projects, which he said remain the foundation of effective governance.
