The sports community in Akwa Ibom and beyond has been thrown into mourning following the death of a veteran football administrator and former Team Manager of Akwa United Football Club, fondly known as Bullet.
In a heartfelt tribute, Elder Ini Edoho, popularly called Amama, described the late sportsman as a humble, jovial, and accommodating personality who left a lasting legacy in football development both at the school and club levels.
Recalling their days of youthful exuberance and shared passion, Elder Edoho noted that the bond with Bullet began during their formative years as neighbors on Ephraim Street, Calabar. They attended the same secondary school, Saint Patrick’s College, Ikot Ansa, as classmates in the Class of 1976, and eventually became teammates in the school’s football team.
Their shared love for the beautiful game endured into adulthood, culminating in both men serving as Team Managers for Akwa United Football Club at different times, a role in which Bullet earned wide respect for his sportsmanship, managerial insight, and calm demeanor.
“Bullet, you left too soon. We don’t have to blame God,” Elder Edoho said, adding that his late colleague was a sportsman per excellence whose life impacted many within and beyond the football community.
He prayed for God to grant the deceased eternal rest, stating, “Rest in peace, brother.”
The news of Bullet’s passing has continued to draw tributes from old schoolmates, former players, and football stakeholders across the state, with many describing him as a passionate figure whose contributions to the sport will not be forgotten.
