Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, has reiterated the importance of public-private partnerships in community development, stating that government alone cannot shoulder all responsibilities.
Speaking at the commissioning of a refurbished squash court at the Ultra Fit Sports Complex, made possible by philanthropist Mkpisong Frank Archibong, Bassey praised Archibong’s gesture as a model worthy of emulation. He emphasized that individuals must contribute meaningfully to governance and community upliftment in their own capacity.
“Sports is a unifying force, a leveler that transcends tribe and religion,” Bassey noted, urging others to take a cue from the “Archibong example” by supporting grassroots development, especially in sports.
Earlier in his remarks, the coach of the squash section, Mr. Anietie Eseme, commended Archibong for transforming an abandoned court into a modern facility that now stands as a symbol of commitment to youth and sports development.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Special Duties, who is a member of the squash section, lauded Archibong for his consistent philanthropic interventions, calling the refurbished court a “legacy project.” He praised both Archibong and the coach for their dedication to the growth of squash in the state.
The event climaxed with the induction of Elder Paul Bassey into the squash section, where he pledged active participation both on and off the court.
