Clad in a simple yet elegant outfit, he thrilled the audience with his record-shattering hits, earning admiration from the crowd.
However, the night also highlighted a stark contrast between Flavour’s seasoned stagecraft and the conduct of some upcoming local artists. David Cruz, whose revealing and inappropriate costume sparked discomfort, was hushed off stage before he could even get into his performance. Similarly, Ikpa Udoh spent most of his time cracking jokes and hyping around the Governor in the VIP section, eventually fading off without rendering a single song.
Former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Charles Udoh, expressed his disappointment over the attitude of these young artists, lamenting their apparent inability to manage success. He stressed the need for immediate intervention to guide them if they hope to climb the ladder of success in the entertainment industry.
Despite these shortcomings, several Akwa Ibom talents delivered exceptional performances. The Young Professionals captivated the audience with nostalgic highlife tunes, while legendary Sir Wilker Jackson and Mr. Xto showcased their commanding artistry. The night reached a patriotic high with Progress Effiong’s inspiring rendition of “Abasi Diong Akwa Ibom”, which resonated deeply with the audience.
While the event celebrated music and culture, it also served as a wake-up call for emerging artists to take their craft more seriously and uphold the rich traditions of Akwa Ibom’s entertainment industry.
