Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has issued a strong and unequivocal message about his approach to appointing the new State Executive Council (Exco), declaring that his phone lines will remain switched off until the names of the designated appointees are sent to the House of Assembly for screening next week.
Speaking at a valedictory dinner held in honor of the outgoing members of the dissolved State Executive Council, Governor Eno emphasized his unwavering commitment to maintaining the integrity of the appointment process. He made it clear that lobbying or submitting names for consideration would disqualify candidates outright.
“Sending a name to me for consideration into the Exco is actually a disservice to such a person because it means I will not consider them,” the Governor stated firmly.
He reminded all that appointing members of the State Executive Council is solely his constitutional prerogative as Governor and called on stakeholders to respect his discretion in building a competent and cohesive team.
