Former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Akpan Luke, has publicly declared his support for Governor Umo Bassey Eno’s second-term ambition, insisting that their shared ancestral roots and communal affinity are stronger than political party differences.

Luke made the declaration on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, during a prayer meeting at Nsit People’s Worship Centre (Ebenezer Chapel), Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The former Speaker acknowledged that he and Governor Eno currently belong to different political parties but maintained that their common identity, heritage and relationship as sons of Nsit transcend partisan considerations.

According to him, he has consistently supported the re-election of serving governors for a second term, stressing that the present political differences would not change his position on Governor Eno’s re-election.

“I have always been canvassing and supporting our governors to go for a second term. The dynamics might be different today because of the differentials in party. Myself and the governor are in two different parties. But there is an affinity that is stronger than party,” Luke declared.

He further emphasised the strength of their ancestral connection, noting that both men share roots in Ibiakpan Oboetim and Nsit, adding that political affiliations should not erase their common heritage.

“All of us shall return to where we come from. As a son of Ibiakpan Oboetim where the Governor also hails from and as a son of Nsit where the Governor also hails from, I, Onofiok Akpan Luke will support Governor Umo Bassey Eno for second term,” he stated.

Luke’s declaration is politically significant, coming against the backdrop of the changing political alignments in Akwa Ibom State and the growing conversation surrounding Governor Eno’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His position also underscores the influence of shared community identity and longstanding relationships in shaping political alliances beyond party boundaries.
