Siminalayi Fubara has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries in Rivers State, citing the need to preserve peace, unity, and stability in the state above personal political ambition.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Rivers State Governor said his decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends, and political associates.
According to him, leadership requires sacrifice, especially at critical moments when the collective interest of the people must override individual aspirations.
Fubara stated that although the decision was difficult, he remains fully committed to supporting whoever emerges as the governorship candidate of the APC in the state.
The governor acknowledged the sacrifices made by his supporters throughout the political process, expressing gratitude for their loyalty, prayers, and unwavering support despite the disappointment many may feel over his withdrawal.
He explained that his prolonged silence during the period was intentional and guided by strategic considerations aimed at protecting the overall interest of Rivers State.
Drawing from a traditional proverb, Fubara noted that not every experience or challenge encountered in political struggles is meant for public discussion, stressing that wisdom and restraint are sometimes necessary to preserve peace and stability.
The governor disclosed that he had faced “immense pressures and difficult choices,” but maintained that his love for Rivers State remained stronger than personal ambition.
Fubara also thanked the All Progressives Congress for providing him the platform throughout the process and expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as support and encouragement.
He urged APC faithful and supporters across the state to remain united and committed to the party’s vision of building a stronger future for Rivers State.
The governor emphasized that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as an act of weakness, fear, or surrender, but rather as a deliberate sacrifice made in the interest of peace, unity, and political stability in the state.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State diligently until the completion of his tenure.
