Fresh students of the University of Uyo School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (SCEPS) have been introduced to key academic, administrative, and legal awareness frameworks during their 2025/2026 orientation exercise held on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
The orientation, designed to formally integrate new entrants into the university system, featured a comprehensive lineup of presentations covering health services, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), General Studies (GST), security services, SERVICOM, sports, library services, fee payment procedures, and overall administrative processes.
In his welcome address, the Director of SCEPS, Prof. Samuel Etuk, charged the students to remain focused and committed to their academic pursuits while taking full advantage of the opportunities provided by the institution. This was followed by remarks from the Vice Chancellor, who emphasized discipline, academic excellence, and responsible conduct as essential pillars for success within and beyond the university environment.
A major highlight of the event was the advocacy, awareness, and sensitisation campaign on the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL), carried out as part of efforts to deepen legal consciousness among students. The initiative aimed at educating the new students on their rights, responsibilities, and the importance of lawful conduct within the society.
The sensitisation exercise recorded significant impact, as many of the students voluntarily enlisted to serve as ambassadors of the Akwa Ibom State ACJL State Working Group within the university community.
The advocacy team was led by the Chairman of the ACJL State Working Group, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Joseph Udoh, alongside the Head of Media and Visibility, Solomon Okpo. Other members of the delegation included Raymond Ekpe, Ubong from the Secretariat, and Mrs. Agnes Paul Udo.
The event underscored the growing collaboration between academic institutions and justice sector stakeholders in promoting awareness, compliance, and the effective implementation of legal reforms at the grassroots level.
