Residents and businesses in Oron are set to experience improved electricity supply following the ongoing rehabilitation and upgrade of the town’s injection substation.
The project involves the upgrade of the existing 1 × 7.5MVA, 33/11kV Injection Substation to a more robust 1 × 15MVA, 33/11kV facility, effectively doubling its capacity to meet increasing energy demand within the area.
When completed, the upgraded substation is expected to significantly enhance power reliability, reduce frequent outages, and deliver improved voltage regulation for consumers. The intervention will also ease the burden on existing infrastructure by minimizing overloading across feeders and equipment.
Industry observers note that the expansion aligns with broader efforts to modernize power infrastructure and strengthen distribution networks in underserved communities. By increasing capacity and improving operational efficiency, the project is positioned to support both residential needs and commercial expansion in Oron and its environs.
The upgrade is also expected to stimulate economic growth by enabling small and medium-scale enterprises to operate more efficiently, while attracting new investments into the area.
The initiative has been linked to the leadership contributions of Victor Antai at the Niger Delta Development Commission, with stakeholders acknowledging his role in advancing sustainable power development in the Niger Delta region.
As work progresses, residents remain optimistic that the improved infrastructure will mark a turning point in addressing longstanding electricity challenges in Oron.
