The Senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, Senator Ekong Sampson, PhD, has outlined what he described as impactful legislative engagements and constituency-focused interventions recorded over the last two years.
Addressing media practitioners on Thursday in Uyo, Senator Sampson said his tenure in the National Assembly has been driven by purposeful lawmaking and people-centred initiatives designed to deliver measurable benefits to constituents.
He disclosed that his legislative contributions include the sponsorship and co-sponsorship of bills aimed at regional development and human capital advancement. Prominent among them are the bill seeking the establishment of a Federal University of Medical Sciences in Eket and the South-South Development Commission Bill.
Beyond legislative work, the senator said his office has executed projects across the district with visible outcomes.
He highlighted the recent disbursement of ₦100 million in educational grants to 200 students, describing it as an unprecedented intervention in the senatorial district. He added that preparations have been concluded for the procurement of various empowerment items, scheduled for distribution to beneficiaries in the first quarter of the year.
According to him, his approach to representation remains service-driven, with emphasis on delivering tangible dividends of democracy. He appealed to constituents and key stakeholders for sustained support, stressing that collaboration is essential to fully realise the objectives outlined in his campaign promises.
Senator Sampson also charged media practitioners to continue playing their role as agents of positive change in society, while pledging to expand training and capacity-building opportunities for journalists within the district.
In his response, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, commended the senator for his legislative and constituency achievements, urging him to sustain the momentum and break new grounds in the year ahead.
