FG Warns Of Revocation Of Oil Licences Over Project Delays

The Federal Government has announced plans to revoke newly awarded oil licences from investors who fail to meet stipulated project development timelines, in a move aimed at accelerating investment and boosting crude oil production.

The warning underscores the government’s determination to ensure that only serious investors retain access to the nation’s petroleum assets.

The government said the measure is intended to discourage the speculative acquisition of oil blocks and promote timely exploration and production activities. It stressed that licence holders are expected to comply with the terms and conditions of their awards, including meeting agreed work programmes and investment commitments within the prescribed timeframe.

The Federal Government expressed confidence that stricter enforcement of licence obligations would enhance efficiency in the oil and gas sector, attract credible investors, and contribute to increased production, job creation, and national revenue.

It reiterated its commitment to implementing transparent regulatory policies that support sustainable growth and strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading oil-producing nation
