Former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, has alleged that Nigeria’s former military Head of State, the late General Sani Abacha, died from a sex-induced cardiac arrest, dismissing the long-standing claim that the former leader was poisoned with apples.
Amachree said the widely circulated poisoning narrative was inaccurate and did not reflect the actual circumstances surrounding Abacha’s death.
According to the former DSS official, Abacha suffered a cardiac arrest during a sexual encounter, contrary to speculation that his death resulted from poisoning. His comments challenge one of the most enduring accounts surrounding the sudden death of the former military ruler, who died on June 8, 1998, while in office.
Amachree’s remarks have revived public interest in the circumstances of Abacha’s death, a subject that has remained controversial for decades.
While his claims have attracted attention, they represent his account of the incident and are likely to reignite debate over one of the most discussed events in Nigeria’s political history.
