AKURE, The Ondo State Government has withheld the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results and testimonials of 17 graduating secondary school students over acts of misconduct during their sign-out celebrations.
The disciplinary action, announced by the Ondo State Ministry of Education, followed an investigation into a viral video showing the students engaging in unruly behaviour shortly after completing their final examinations.
According to the ministry, the affected students were seen tearing their school uniforms, chanting inappropriate slogans and participating in activities considered inconsistent with the standards of discipline expected in public secondary schools.
The students are from Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas Secondary School and CAC Grammar School, all located in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
In addition to withholding their WASSCE results and school testimonials, the government said the students had also been expelled as part of measures to enforce discipline within the state’s education system.
The Ministry of Education explained that the sanctions were intended to uphold acceptable standards of conduct and serve as a deterrent to other students who might engage in similar acts of indiscipline.
The state government reiterated its commitment to promoting discipline, moral values and responsible behaviour among students, stressing that misconduct would not be tolerated in public schools.
