Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, has congratulated Ibom Angels Football Club following their qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2026 President Federation Cup, describing the feat as a testament to the team’s resilience, determination and hard work.

The Akwa Ibom-based side secured a place in the last eight after edging Bayelsa Queens 5-4 on penalties following a hard-fought 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Awka City Stadium in Anambra State on Tuesday.
Reacting to the victory, Elder Bassey commended the players, coaching crew and management of the club for their outstanding performance and urged them not to relent in their pursuit of the coveted national title.

“On behalf of the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Sports, I sincerely congratulate the Chairman, management, coaching crew and players of Ibom Angels Football Club on their qualification for the quarter-finals of this year’s President Federation Cup,” he said.
“Their achievement clearly demonstrates what courage, determination and hard work can accomplish. While we celebrate this milestone, it is important that the team remains focused and intensifies preparations for the challenges ahead.”

The Sports Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting athletes and sports teams in line with the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno, assuring the club of continued encouragement and necessary backing as they strive for success.

He noted that Ibom Angels had previously reached the Federation Cup final on two occasions without lifting the trophy and expressed optimism that the current campaign could provide the breakthrough opportunity to bring the prestigious title to Akwa Ibom State.

Elder Bassey also called on sports stakeholders, football enthusiasts and supporters across the state to rally behind the team with unwavering moral and spiritual support.
“Ibom Angels have come this far through hard work and dedication. With the support of the people, we believe they can go all the way and bring honour and glory to our state,” he added.

Ibom Angels will face Heartland Queens in the quarter-final stage, with the date and venue for the encounter yet to be announced.
