The All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to shape its political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections with the emergence of senatorial candidates across several states of the federation following the party’s primary elections.
Among the prominent political figures who secured tickets on the APC platform are former governors, serving lawmakers, former ministers, and influential party stalwarts, reflecting the party’s determination to consolidate its presence in the National Assembly.
In Godswill Akpabio secured the APC ticket for Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District, while Aniekan Bassey emerged for Akwa Ibom North-East and Ekong Sampson clinched the ticket for Akwa Ibom South.
In Abia State, former governor Orji Uzor Kalu emerged for Abia North, while Emeka Atuma and Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jr secured tickets for Abia Central and Abia South respectively.
Delta State also produced notable names including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for Delta North, alongside Ede Dafinone and Joel-Onowakpo Thomas for Delta Central and Delta South.
In Edo State, former National Chairman of the APC and ex-governor Adams Oshiomhole emerged for Edo North, while former Kano governor Ibrahim Shekarau secured the Kano Central ticket.
Other notable APC candidates include Hope Uzodimma for Imo West, Yahaya Bello for Kogi Central, Dapo Abiodun for Ogun East, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for Kwara Central, and Mai Mala Buni for Yobe East.
In Lagos State, former Deputy Governor Idiat Adebule emerged for Lagos West, while Tokunbo Abiru and Wasiu Eshinlokun secured Lagos East and Lagos Central respectively.
The APC primaries also produced female candidates in some states, including Kene Chiedu Ngozi Benedicta for Anambra Central, Muheebah Dankaka for Kwara South, and Idiat Adebule for Lagos West.
Political observers note that the emergence of heavyweight politicians in the APC senatorial race could significantly influence the balance of power in the 11th National Assembly if the party performs strongly in the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, party sources disclosed that senatorial primaries in some districts remain pending or inconclusive due to internal disagreements, zoning arrangements, logistical issues, and ongoing consultations among stakeholders.
The APC is expected to conclude outstanding primaries in the coming days as preparations intensify for the next phase of the electoral process under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
