The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, has commended Governor Umo Bassey Eno for what he described as the peaceful and orderly conduct of the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in the state.
Elder Bassey gave the commendation on Wednesday during the symposium of the Association of Eket Senatorial District Media Professionals for 2026, held at Eden Hotels Limited in Eket.
Describing the APC primaries as “the most peaceful ever conducted,” the Sports Commissioner attributed the calm political atmosphere in the state to the leadership style of Governor Eno, noting that peace remains one of the administration’s greatest achievements.
According to him, the governor has continued to provide purposeful governance while maintaining a stable and peaceful environment conducive for democratic growth and development.
As the state prepares for the 2027 general elections, Elder Bassey called on residents and political stakeholders to sustain their support for the governor in order to preserve peace and ensure the continued delivery of democratic dividends across the state.
The Sports Commissioner also congratulated Ekong Sampson on his emergence as the APC senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, expressing confidence in his capacity to continue delivering quality representation at the National Assembly.
He stressed the need for Senator Sampson to return to the Red Chambers to consolidate on the initiatives and programmes he has already started for the benefit of the district.
Speaking further in his goodwill message as Guest of Honour at the symposium, Elder Bassey charged media practitioners to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.
He commended the organisers, supporters, and resource persons for what he described as an intellectually rewarding symposium, urging participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve their professional conduct.
“The key word in this hall today is professionalism. Let us be very thorough in investigation. We are different from those who believe that having an android phone makes one a journalist,” he stated.
The symposium attracted dignitaries and media professionals from across the Eket Senatorial District and featured paper presentations, interactive panel discussions, award presentations, goodwill messages, and artistic performances.
