A representative linked to former U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly approached FIFA with a proposal to replace Iran with Italy at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup.
According to reports, the envoy described the potential inclusion of Italy, popularly known as the Azzurri, as a “dream” scenario, particularly with the tournament set to be hosted in the United States. The move, if pursued, would mark a significant and controversial intervention in the tournament’s qualification structure.
Italy, a four-time World Cup winner, failed to qualify for the 2022 edition in Qatar, raising concerns about its recent international form. However, its global appeal and football pedigree continue to make it one of the sport’s most followed national teams.
Iran, on the other hand, has consistently qualified for recent World Cups and remains one of Asia’s strongest representatives in international football.
