A blend of family pride, deep-rooted tradition, and spiritual reflection defined the dedication ceremony of Little Miss Zayelle Uwana-abasi Udonsak, granddaughter of the President General of the Ekid People’s Union, Dr. Samuel Udonsak, held in Eket on Saturday.
The solemn yet celebratory event took place at Qua Iboe Church, Afaha Eket, drawing a distinguished gathering of political leaders, traditional rulers, professionals, and members of the Ekid community.
Presenting the child for dedication, Dr. Udonsak revealed that his choice of venue was driven by a longstanding emotional and spiritual connection to the church. He explained that he had always resolved that his first grandchild would be dedicated at the same church where his late father was interred.
“I insisted that my first grandchild would be dedicated here because I have a sentimental attachment to this church,” he said, recalling the significant role the church played during his father’s burial rites.
The EPU President also used the moment to reflect on his personal values and integrity, noting that his family history and moral upbringing continue to shape his actions and public image.
The ceremony doubled as a celebration of family unity, as Dr. Udonsak publicly commended his son, Joseph Udonsak, and daughter-in-law for their humility and admirable disposition, which he described as a source of pride and fulfilment for the family.
The event attracted a host of dignitaries, including the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong; Chairman of Eket Local Government Council, Mkpisong Akan Tommey; and Senator representing Eket Senatorial District, Ekong Sampson.
Others in attendance were Member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency, Hon. Engr. Friday Udobia Udo; the Paramount Ruler of Eket, HRM Edidem E. C. D. Abia; Secretary General of EPU, Barr. Bassey Dan Abia; and Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Nsibiet John, among several notable personalities.
Traditional rulers, sociocultural groups, and professionals from various sectors also graced the occasion, underscoring the significance of the ceremony within the Ekid nation.
A grand reception followed at Eket City Hall, where guests were further entertained in a festive atmosphere marked by goodwill and celebration.
