A socio-political organisation, Plateau Vanguard for Democracy (PVD), has declared that Plateau State stands to gain significantly from the defection of Governor Caleb Muftwang to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group made the assertion on Monday in Abuja during a media briefing ahead of the formal reception of Governor Muftwang into the ruling party.
Chairman of the group, Mr. Christopher Ishaku, described the governor’s defection as a strategic realignment capable of repositioning the state for greater unity, stability and development. He urged political leaders, residents and other stakeholders to embrace the move as a decisive break from years of divisive politics.
According to Ishaku, the governor’s alignment with the APC presents an opportunity to transform political rivalry into collaboration, enabling the state to focus on peace, inclusive governance and sustainable development.
“This is a moment that should be seen as a redirection of energy. Assets that were previously deployed in political brinkmanship will now be channelled toward the development of Plateau,” he said.
The PVD chairman noted that the convergence of Governor Muftwang’s political structure with existing APC stakeholders would create a stronger and more cohesive platform to address Plateau’s longstanding challenges.
“The defection of the governor will consolidate the different tendencies in the state into a cohesive body that will ultimately make Plateau better,” Ishaku stated. “Plateau’s advancement depends more on cooperation among leaders than rigid party loyalties.
This new political configuration will drive strategic unity and a renewed focus on tangible governance outcomes.”
He added that the evolving political landscape offers a rare opportunity to heal divisions, foster inclusive leadership and deliver measurable improvements in security, economic growth and infrastructure development across the state.
Governor Muftwang, who has already received his APC membership card, has also pledged his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, further signalling his commitment to the ruling party’s national agenda.
