A frontline aspirant for the House of Representatives in Eket Federal Constituency, Chris Sunday George, has reaffirmed his commitment to poverty eradication, describing the menace as the most critical obstacle to human development and social progress in the constituency.
Dr. George said his approach goes beyond short-term relief measures, stressing the need for robust and sustainable systems that confront the root causes of poverty. He noted that poverty continues to erode human potential, stifle creativity, and suppress the aspirations of many citizens who otherwise possess the capacity to contribute meaningfully to society.
According to him, genuine development is measured by the extent to which people are empowered to live purposeful and productive lives. He emphasized that governance should not be about helping citizens merely survive, but enabling them to thrive with dignity and confidence.
The House of Representatives aspirant outlined a vision of a society where individuals are freed from what he described as the “shackles of poverty,” adding that such liberation would allow citizens to fully harness their talents, pursue innovative ideas, and realize their dreams.
Dr. George maintained that his aspiration is driven by a conviction that inclusive growth and people-centred policies remain the surest path to sustainable development, pledging to prioritize empowerment-focused initiatives if elected.
