JUST IN: University of Uyo’s Communication Faculty Bolsters Academic Strength with Four New Senior Appointments

By Solomon OKPO

The Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Uyo has recorded a significant expansion in its academic leadership with the elevation of four members of staff, two to the rank of Professor and two to Associate Professor.

The newly promoted Professors are Prof. Aniebo Samson, Head of the Department of Advertising and Marketing Communications, and Prof. Nevelyn Batta.
Also elevated are Dr. Iniobong Nda, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, and Dr. Uduot Iwok, Head of the Department of Public Relations, who now assume the rank of Associate Professor.

With these promotions, the Faculty’s academic strength rises to ten Professors and four Associate Professors, further reinforcing its reputation as one of Nigeria’s most resource-rich centres for communication studies.

Widely regarded as the most endowed communication faculty in the country in terms of teaching quality, the Faculty traces its roots to the former Department of Communication Arts, designated by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as the Center of Excellence at the University of Uyo. Over the decades, this pioneering department has played a central role in training communication scholars who now serve in universities across Nigeria.

The recent promotions are expected to further enhance the Faculty’s academic output, research capacity, and national leadership in communication scholarship.
