Senate President Godswill Akpabio has signaled his intention to take legal action against Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, over alleged defamatory remarks made during a live television appearance.
During a recent interview on Arise Television, Dr. Pearse reportedly referred to Akpabio as a “criminal” — a statement the Senate President described as false, malicious, and injurious to his character and public standing.
In a statement made available through his media team, Akpabio condemned the comment as a reckless attack that not only tarnishes his reputation but also undermines the integrity of his office. He emphasized his commitment to upholding the rule of law and noted that he is consulting his legal team to pursue redress through the courts.
“The remarks by Dr. Pearse were not only untrue but also defamatory. I will not allow such unfounded allegations to go unchallenged,” Akpabio said.
As of press time, Dr. Pearse had not issued a formal response to the threat of legal action.
