The collapse of love among brethren is one major reason many once-faithful Christians no longer attend church. Not because they stopped believing in God, but because the church system itself has become toxic. Many congregations, instead of strengthening faith, have become tools for frustrating it.
Yet, I will not wholly blame the churches. I also hold individuals responsible for allowing themselves to be exploited in these Mammon-driven assemblies. If you know the Spirit of Christ is not present, why remain? Why let the lure of a “big G.O,” massive auditoriums, celebrity members, or powerful connections blind you? You stayed, and now that your spiritual fire has been quenched, you cry foul.
Where in Scripture did Christ ever identify His Church by size, wealth, or worldly influence? Nowhere! The Bible clearly states: “The kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost” (Romans 14:17). Holiness, righteousness, and the joy of the Spirit, not financial empire building, are the marks of the true Church.
Believers must open their eyes. The popular saying, “Experience is the best teacher,” is not scriptural. A true Christian does not need to stumble into deception before discerning it. By the Word of God, we are empowered to see the end from the beginning. The Bible says: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). That is perception, the spiritual sight that prevents destruction.
Do not wait until your faith is completely buried before fleeing such worldly denominations. God still has a remnant. There are true assemblies where sound doctrine is preached, where Christ, not Mammon, reigns, where the Holy Spirit is honored. If you have not found them, it is not because they do not exist, but because your faith has been built on convenience rather than on truth.
“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Corinthians 3:17). If the Holy Spirit is not present, God is not involved. Anything else is mere religion, empty, powerless, and dangerous.
