UYO, The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Akwa Ibom State chapter, Dr. Uwemedimo E. Udo, has hailed Governor Umo Eno for making sports a central pillar of his administration’s ARISE agenda.
Speaking at the official opening of the Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival in Uyo, Dr. Udo described the governor’s investment in sports as a strategic step toward youth development, talent discovery, and tourism promotion.
According to him, all 31 local government areas of the state are fully represented at the festival, with contingents set to battle for medals across different sporting categories.

“This is a worthy investment. Our young sportsmen and women will gain exposure and competitive experience that can elevate them to national and international platforms,” Dr. Udo stated, pledging ALGON’s support in ensuring fair play during the event.
The ALGON Chairman, who also doubles as Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, commended the Ministry of Sports and the inter-ministerial committee for their efforts in staging the games. He assured that local governments remain committed to harnessing and nurturing sporting talents for the future.
The Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival is expected to serve as a springboard for young athletes to showcase their skills while uniting communities across the state under the banner of sportsmanship and development.
