The Torch of Unity, a symbolic prelude to the forthcoming Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival, has arrived Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, marking another milestone in the statewide countdown to the games.

In a brief but symbolic ceremony, the State Sports Director, Mrs. Bridget Oton, presented the torch to the Council Chairman, Rt. Hon. (Obong) Asuakak Umoh, with council members and other stakeholders in attendance.

The presentation is part of the ongoing tour across all 31 local government areas of the state, designed to promote inclusiveness, solidarity, and excitement ahead of the festival.

Receiving the torch, Chairman Asuakak Umoh commended Governor Umo Eno for what he described as a rare and laudable initiative to unite Akwa Ibom people through sports. He said the festival would not only serve as a platform for competition but also for talent discovery, youth empowerment, and stronger inter-LGA relations.

“This is about much more than sports—it is about building bridges of friendship, teamwork, and unity across Akwa Ibom. Ibiono Ibom will be fully represented and will proudly showcase our sporting talents and communal spirit,” the chairman declared.

The Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival, expected to feature athletes from across the 31 LGAs, is positioned to become a flagship event for youth development and grassroots sports promotion in the state.
