The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the Southern region of the country.
This decision was contained in a communique issued at the end of the 102nd NEC meeting of the party held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at the PDP National Secretariat.
In the communique, NEC expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness by the party’s organs, chapters, and structures ahead of its 2025 Elective National Convention, which is scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15 to 16, 2025.
Acknowledging the efforts of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees (BoT), National Working Committee (NWC), and the National Assembly Caucus, the NEC commended the collective commitment towards ensuring a successful convention.
On zoning, NEC approved the recommendations of the National Convention Zoning Committee, which retained all existing national party offices in their current regions. Specifically, it was resolved that:
All PDP national offices in the North remain in the North.
All PDP national offices in the South remain in the South.
With the National Chairman retained in the North, the party’s 2027 presidential candidate is zoned to the South.
Each region should immediately micro-zone positions within its domain for smooth implementation.
NEC also received updates from the Constitution Amendment Committee and directed that the draft amendments be circulated to various organs and chapters of the party for further input before adoption.
The meeting, party officials noted, underscores the PDP’s commitment to internal democracy, inclusiveness, and a clear roadmap toward reclaiming power in the 2027 general elections.
