The Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien, has donated two brand new laptop computers to the best graduating participants of the state’s ICT training programme for civil servants, held between August 2022 and December 2024.
The beneficiaries—Engr. Daniel Jonathan of the Ministry of Works and Fire Service, and Mrs. Mercy Samuel John of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC)—emerged top among 623 trained civil servants who received certificates of participation on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the ICT Resource Centre, Accountant General’s Office.
Presenting the laptops and certificates, Pastor Andrew-Essien said the personal gesture was aimed at boosting morale and encouraging a culture of excellence among civil servants. He emphasized the imperative for public servants to embrace continuous learning, especially in digital technologies, noting that “the 21st century world is driven by technology.”
“This training has equipped you with critical ICT skills necessary for effective service delivery. Use the knowledge gained to advance your professional responsibilities. Remember, knowledge is a perishable commodity—if you don’t warm it, it becomes stale,” the AG warned.
The Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Emem Almond Bob, represented by the Director of ICT, Prince Iniobong Eka, applauded the Accountant General for his sustained leadership in promoting digital transformation in the civil service. He reiterated the State Government’s commitment to a paperless service structure through the ongoing digitization of public administration.
Earlier, Managing Director of NIMESI Systems Ltd, Mr. Etangese Isemin, who implemented the training, commended the state government for supporting the initiative. He maintained that no government can achieve meaningful development without a digitally skilled and informed workforce.
In her response, a visibly elated Mrs. Mercy Samuel, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the Accountant General for his generosity and mentorship. She prayed for divine blessings upon him.
