Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has expressed deep outrage over the recent surge in violence across Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kebbi states, which has left more than 50 people dead.
Describing the killings as “a devastating blow to Nigeria’s collective conscience,” Atiku, in a statement on Sunday, said the tragedies highlight the failure of existing security mechanisms to protect citizens from harm.
“These are not just numbers—we are talking about shattered families and stolen dreams. The normalization of mass bloodshed must end,” the former vice president said.
He commiserated with the families of the victims and condemned what he termed a growing pattern of indifference and inaction in the face of recurring carnage.
Atiku called for an urgent and comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, urging the government to adopt a strategy that prioritizes human life and community safety above political calculations.
He insisted that a people-centered security approach—proactive, accountable, and technology-driven—is critical to restoring public trust and safeguarding national unity.
“Nigerians deserve to live in peace, free from the fear of senseless violence. The government must rise above rhetoric and act decisively to secure the lives and dignity of its citizens,” he stated.
