President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to visit Benue State in a high-level intervention aimed at addressing the persistent conflict that has ravaged several communities across the state.
The President’s visit follows a troubling resurgence of violence that has claimed numerous lives and caused widespread destruction of property, further displacing many residents.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s agenda includes a town hall meeting with key stakeholders, ranging from traditional rulers, political leaders, and religious heads to community elders and youth groups, with the ultimate aim of finding a lasting solution to the crisis.
In a show of seriousness and commitment, President Tinubu has already dispatched top federal officials to Benue ahead of his arrival. These include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Defence.
President Tinubu, who has consistently condemned the violence in the region, reiterated his call for unity, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect among all communities. He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of victims and those affected by the hostilities.
Originally scheduled to be in Kaduna on Wednesday, June 18, for the commissioning of state projects, the President’s itinerary has now shifted, with the official visit to Kaduna moved to Thursday, June 19, 2025.
The visit to Benue is seen as a strong signal of the administration’s resolve to bring peace to troubled parts of the country through direct engagement and actionable dialogue.
