AKWA IBOM GOVERNOR, PASTOR UMO ENO, TO GRACE NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL IN OGUN STATE

The highly anticipated 22nd National Sports Festival is finally here, and the excitement is palpable. The festival, hosted by the Ogun State Government and tagged “Gateway Games 2024,” aims to showcase hidden talents and promote sports development across Nigeria. Scheduled to kick off on May 18th with the opening ceremony at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the event promises to be an electrifying experience, with different states, including Akwa Ibom, converging to display their sporting prowess.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has extended invitations to all state governors, and Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, will be ably represented by the state’s Sports Commissioner, Elder Paul Bassey, Additionally, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Rosemary Ubia will also be in attendance to support the team.

Team Akwa Ibom, comprising 258 athletes (146 males and 112 females) and 81 officials, will participate in 23 different sports, including athletics, cricket, para-athletics, tennis, table tennis, badminton, deaf badminton, para-powerlifting, weightlifting, Ayo, chess, Scrabble, dart, cycling, taekwondo, golf, boxing, karate, kung fu ,kickboxing, squash, para table tennis, and para athletics. The team is determined to showcase their skills and better their performance compared to previous editions of the festival.

Governor Eno’s attendance underscores the state’s commitment to sports development and its desire to nurture and showcase the talents of its youth. The festival provides a platform for athletes from different states to converge, share experiences, and learn from one another.

As the opening ceremony gets underway, the atmosphere is expected to be electric, with athletes, officials, and spectators converging to witness the spectacle. The festival promises to be a celebration of sportsmanship, talent, and unity, and Akwa Ibom State is poised to make a lasting impression.

With the theme of the festival centered on promoting sports development and unity, the Arise Agenda of the Governor Umo Eno administration comes into focus.
The Akwa Ibom State delegation is confident of making a strong impact and returning home with medals and accolades.

The festival will run from May 18 to 30, and all eyes will be on the athletes as they compete in various events. The event promises to be an exciting display of sporting talent, and Akwa Ibom State is ready to shine.
