In a major breakthrough against kidnapping in Akwa Ibom State, the Police Command has arrested six suspected kidnappers in a coordinated operation following credible intelligence of an imminent abduction targeting high-profile individuals in Eket.
The crackdown, which began with the arrest of one Joseph Alafia in Oron Town on May 6, 2025, led to further raids on two separate locations in Afia Nsit Eket. The joint efforts by the Command’s tactical operatives resulted in the apprehension of the following suspects:
Oyibo Ayibakumo Brown (male), from Bayelsa State
Wisdom Harry (male), from Rivers State
Afanye Igonikon (male), from Rivers State
Dare Olaniyi (male), from Ogun State, residing at Enugu Waterside, Port Harcourt
Tita Mercy Masume (female), a national of Cameroon


Authorities also recovered a Lexus RX 300 SUV with registration number KMR 491 AE, grey and ash in color, believed to have been used in past abduction operations. Additionally, five mobile phones were seized as part of the investigation.
The suspects are reportedly linked to a series of recent kidnappings in the Eket area and are currently undergoing thorough interrogation.
Commending the swift and strategic operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, lauded the officers’ professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the safety and security of all residents of Akwa Ibom State.
