EKET, In a show of generosity and community solidarity during the Easter season, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, has empowered 20 small-scale business owners in Atabong village, Eket Local Government Area, with a financial grant totaling One Million Naira.
Speaking at the monthly village council meeting in Atabong, Elder Bassey expressed deep gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for the opportunity to serve and to the people of Atabong for their continued support. He said the visit was both to celebrate Easter with the community and to reinforce the Governor’s ARISE Agenda.
“We are blessed to have a Governor who is passionate about productivity and creativity. If you have a skill or business idea, showcase it through the government’s online portal. You might just get selected for various empowerment opportunities,” Bassey advised.
He further revealed plans to establish a liaison office in Atabong to streamline the selection of youths for skills training at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre in Ibiono Ibom. According to him, the N50,000 grant per beneficiary was a direct complement to Governor Umo Eno’s push to uplift youths and women in business.
In his remarks, the Village Head of Atabong, Mkpisong Obong Dr. Ferdinand Ikwang, congratulated Elder Bassey on his appointment, describing him as a “square peg in a square hole.” He assured the Commissioner of the community’s unwavering support and prayed for his success in office.
