President Bola Tinubu has signed the South-South and South-West Development Commission Bills into law, furthering his administration’s commitment to regional development and inclusive governance.
The signing, which took place on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, marks a significant step toward enhancing governance, security, and economic growth in the two regions. The newly established commissions will focus on efficient resource management, social stability, and fostering a business-friendly environment.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the plenary in Abuja, expressed gratitude to the president for ensuring that all geo-political zones now have their own development commissions. He noted that this move would drive grassroots development and align with the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“The development commissions for all zones will now positively impact the local people,” Kalu stated. “Mr. President has demonstrated fairness by creating equal opportunities for all regions to accelerate their growth.”
He urged stakeholders from each zone to maximize the potential of their respective development commissions to foster sustainable progress.
With these new commissions, the South-South and South-West regions are poised for targeted infrastructural development and economic transformation.
