Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a crucial victory over Rwanda in a thrilling World Cup qualifier at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, earning praise from their chief host, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State.
In a goodwill message, Governor Eno commended the team’s resilience, acknowledging the importance of the win after recent underwhelming performances. “We needed this victory to get our qualification back on track, and the boys responded positively despite the daunting atmosphere of a packed Rwandan crowd. The Nigerian spirit prevailed, and victory songs are now resonating from Sokoto to Uyo,” he said.
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s clash against Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the governor urged fans, particularly Akwa Ibomites, to turn up in large numbers dressed in Nigeria’s green and white colors to cheer the team to another triumph.
“The Godswill Akpabio Stadium is known as a slaughterhouse for Eagles’ opponents, and Tuesday will be no exception,” Governor Eno assured, emphasizing the need for vocal home support.
With this victory, Nigeria now sits in fourth place with six points, trailing group leaders South Africa by four points after five rounds. A win in Uyo will significantly boost their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
