The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, has called on youths across the state to reciprocate Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to their future by actively engaging in productive ventures that will sustain the prevailing peace and economic growth.
Dr. Ekanem made the appeal on Tuesday during the launch of the ARISE Equipment Support Scheme and Special Awards for academic and entrepreneurial excellence, where over 70 percent of the beneficiaries were young people drawn from both formal and informal sectors across various local government areas.
Commending Governor Eno’s youth-centered policies, the Commissioner highlighted the transformative impact of the ARISE Agenda in reshaping the socioeconomic landscape for young people. He noted that the administration has demonstrated unwavering dedication to providing sustainable livelihood opportunities for the youth.
Listing several initiatives that have bolstered youth empowerment and inclusion, Dr. Ekanem pointed to the Enterprise Accelerator Programme of Ibom-LED, educational bursaries, the establishment of Ibom Community Watch, skills training at DASAC, and the appointment of young people to key positions in government. He emphasized that these efforts have significantly contributed to the economic and political advancement of youths in the state.
Describing the ARISE Equipment Support Scheme as a strategic intervention for enterprise development, he noted that it would enhance productivity and better prepare young people for future opportunities. He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the empowerment tools provided to grow their businesses and capacities.
Dr. Ekanem further encouraged youths to continue supporting Governor Umo Eno’s developmental initiatives while warning against actions that could disrupt progress, such as vandalism and project obstruction. He assured that the Ministry of Youth Development remains committed to mobilizing young people to access greater benefits from the administration’s ARISE Agenda.
