Akwa United reaffirmed their dominance in Akwa Ibom football, clinching the 2025 Akwa Ibom State President Federation Cup title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Eagle Eye Football Academy at the Uyo Township Stadium.
A decisive second-half strike from Ibrahim Akande was enough to seal the win for the Promise Keepers, ensuring they retained the trophy for a record 16th time in 17 years.
Eagle Eye Football Academy, making their first-ever appearance in the state final, showed determination but struggled to match the experience and composure of the two-time national champions. Despite a goalless first half, Akwa United maintained control, and strategic substitutions by Coach Kennedy Boboye added fresh energy to their attack.
Fifteen minutes from full time, Akande capitalized on a well-timed pass, skillfully maneuvered into the box, and unleashed a powerful right-footed shot into the top corner, securing the win for his side.
Both teams have now qualified for the national competition, but for Akwa United, the focus quickly shifts to their Nigeria Premier Football League campaign, as they prepare to face Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Wednesday.
