UYO, In a major boost to security in Akwa Ibom State, the Police Command has successfully passed out 1,511 re-trained women police officers following an intensive tactical and operational training program at the 26 Police Mobile Squadron.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, described the training as a strategic move to enhance the security architecture of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria at large. According to him, the initiative aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to equip officers with modern policing tactics, intelligence-driven strategies, and result-oriented approaches to crime fighting.
During the three-month program, the officers underwent rigorous training in advanced drills, handling firearms, tactical combat casualty care, and counter-terrorism operations, among other critical security skills. The Commissioner emphasized that the training was not just about physical endurance but also about mental agility and strategic response to emerging security threats.
CP Azare also highlighted the role of women in law enforcement, stating that the re-trained officers will play a key role in tackling crime and ensuring public safety. He acknowledged the contributions of the late CP Waheed Ayilara, under whose tenure the initiative began, and commended the former Squadron Commander of the 26 PMF, ACP Baba Mala Mohammed, for initiating the training.
The event also had a representative of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, who congratulated the officers and urged them to remain professional in their duties. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting security agencies in maintaining law and order in the state.
With this development, residents of Akwa Ibom can expect enhanced policing and a strengthened security presence as the newly trained officers deploy to various divisions and commands across the state.
