What a disappointment! But should it really be? Those who had high expectations for something ordinary must now come to terms with reality, Governor Umo Eno has delivered beyond the usual. Perhaps it is wiser not to expect too little, so one does not get disappointed when excellence is unveiled.
Even before the official announcement, the signs were there. The governor’s body language and actions foreshadowed his decision. Anyone keen enough to observe should have realized that Governor Eno had a different approach, one not dictated by the usual political routine but by a commitment to excellence.
Did people truly believe he would present just another list? An ordinary list from an extraordinary leader? That, in itself, was a flawed expectation. If anyone feels let down, it is not the governor they should blame but themselves for not anticipating his trademark dedication to quality leadership.
By his actions, Governor Eno made it clear that whenever a leader of his caliber assembles a team, it is not just about filling positions, it is about transformation. Akwa Ibom State is about to witness a new wave of governance characterized by high-quality delivery.
Governor Eno did not just submit a list of nominees to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation. He presented a team of the best and brightest minds, people carefully chosen to drive the much-cherished ARISE Agenda of his administration. Instead of a routine compilation of names, he has given Akwa Ibom State a golden reason to celebrate.
For those disappointed that this is not “just a list” but a selection of remarkable individuals, the lesson is simple, expect greatness from a leader committed to excellence.
A great team begins with a great coach. In football, the best teams are built when the coach assembles top talent, fosters teamwork, and inspires dedication. Governor Eno has done just that—assembling a “first eleven” team poised for high performance and effective delivery of the ARISE Agenda.
This list is not just about political appointments; it is a well-balanced blend of expertise, experience, and fresh energy. It brings together accomplished individuals from various backgrounds—academia, politics, the legislature, and the civil/public service.
One striking feature of this list is its strong representation of youth. No other State Executive Council in the country has given this level of opportunity to young people. Governor Eno has effectively shortened the gap between tomorrow’s leaders and today’s governance, giving the younger generation a front-row seat in decision-making.
Furthermore, the team reflects a rich diversity of experience, with nine returning commissioners and 18 new entrants. This ensures continuity while infusing fresh perspectives into governance. The inclusion of former local government chairmen, legislators, and seasoned professionals ensures that the administration benefits from both grassroots knowledge and high-level expertise.
Governor Eno’s commitment to inclusivity is evident in the way this list accommodates different interests while maintaining a pan-Akwa Ibom identity. He has demonstrated that leadership transcends parochial sentiments and focuses on uniting the state for collective progress.
While he does not subscribe to the rigid idea of local government representation, his choices ensure a broad spread across the 31 local government areas. This inclusivity may have contributed to the expansion of ministries and bureaus to 27, ensuring that governance reaches all corners of the state.
Another commendable aspect of this list is its gender balance. Governor Eno, already known for his gender-friendly policies, has ensured that women are not sidelined. In addition to having a female Deputy Governor who is already excelling in her role, he has included capable women in key positions within the executive council.
While Governor Eno has done his part by assembling a stellar team, the real work begins now. The expectations are high, and Akwa Ibom people are looking forward to tangible results. Each nominee must translate their expertise, experience, and vision into action, complementing the governor’s leadership to achieve a greater Akwa Ibom State.
With the right mix of competence and commitment, this team has the potential to implement policies that will uplift the state and bring about lasting development. Governor Eno has set the stage; it is now up to the appointees to deliver.
As Akwa Ibom people celebrate this outstanding list, one thing is clear—Governor Eno has not just given them names; he has given them a reason to leap for joy.
Indeed, like the popular Nigerian song says, Joy is coming. But in this case, joy is already here.
