An Abuja-based lawyer, Johnmary Jideobi, has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
In the suit, Jideobi contends that President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint Ibas is unconstitutional. The President is listed as the 1st defendant, alongside the Attorney-General of the Federation, Ibas himself, and the Attorneys-General of the 36 states.
The legal action seeks a court order to nullify Ibas’ appointment and to bar the President from appointing Sole Administrators in any state. Jideobi argues that the Nigerian Constitution provides specific conditions for the removal of an elected governor, none of which support the appointment of a Sole Administrator.
The case has yet to be assigned a hearing date.
