The Commissioner of Police (CP), Baba Mohammed Azare, has urged hotel owners and managers in Akwa Ibom State to collaborate with the Police to combat the rising trend of criminals using hotels as hideouts or operational bases. This call was made during a strategic meeting on Monday, 27th January 2025, held at the Police Headquarters in Uyo.
Key stakeholders in the hospitality and tourism industry attended, including representatives from associations such as the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), Hotels Owners Association (HOA), and Airport Taxi Association of Nigeria.
CP Azare warned that any hotel found harboring criminals will be raided and temporarily shut down to facilitate investigations.
Hotel owners and managers were encouraged to monitor guest activities, maintain accurate records, and report suspicious individuals to the nearest police station.
CP Azare assured stakeholders that the Police are committed to maintaining the state’s reputation as peaceful while protecting businesses.
Mr. Daniel Udoh, President of the Hotels Owners Association, appreciated the CP’s proactive approach and promised that hotels would enhance security measures, cooperate with the Police, and support crime prevention initiatives.
This initiative highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the private sector in ensuring the safety of residents and visitors to Akwa Ibom State.
