Wonder Life Mental Rehabilitation and Research Centre, located in Ikot Afanga, Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, is seeking to expand its humanitarian impact through international collaboration, mental health research and knowledge exchange as it marks 30 years of service to vulnerable people.

The milestone, commemorated alongside World Mental Health Day, marks a new phase for Wonder Life Care Mission International (WOLCAM), the organisation behind the centre, which has continued to champion the rehabilitation, recovery and reintegration of people facing complex mental health challenges, substance-use disorders, social exclusion and other forms of vulnerability.

Operating under the guiding principle that No Living Being Is Useless,” WOLCAM said it was building on three decades of practical experience to develop an African humanitarian and mental health knowledge ecosystem that would connect professionals, researchers, institutions, faith communities and development partners across Nigeria, Africa and beyond.

The organisation explained that its vision was to transform Wonder Life into a recognised destination for humanitarian engagement, mental health learning, research, professional exchange and responsible humanitarian tourism. The initiative is expected to create opportunities for visitors, researchers and healthcare professionals to learn from the centre’s experience in rehabilitation and human recovery.

According to WOLCAM, the next phase of its development will require stronger partnerships with universities, healthcare practitioners, humanitarian organisations, governments, faith-based institutions, researchers and international development agencies. Such collaborations, it said, would help document practical experiences, promote evidence-based learning and strengthen the centre’s contribution to mental health and humanitarian services.

The organisation stressed that its mission goes beyond providing care, describing Wonder Life as a developing legacy dedicated to human dignity, social inclusion and the possibility of rebuilding lives.

As it looks towards greater international engagement, WOLCAM is inviting individuals and organisations committed to humanitarian service to explore its vision and collaborate in advancing mental health awareness, rehabilitation and reintegration.

The Wonder Life Mental Rehabilitation and Research Centre is situated in Ikot Afanga, Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
