The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who was accused of posing as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.

Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charge following an application by the Federal Government seeking to discontinue the proceedings at the court, with plans to transfer the case to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for fresh arraignment.

Moving the application, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed Adeyemi’s case file and the charge initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police. According to Oyedepo, the review identified certain loopholes in the case, prompting the government to seek the termination of the existing proceedings.

Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application. Consequently, Justice Umar granted the request and struck out the charge, paving the way for the matter to be taken before the FCT High Court for fresh arraignment.

Adeyemi, 38, had been standing trial alongside two other defendants whose whereabouts were reportedly unknown. The eight-count charge bordered on alleged conspiracy and forgery.

The striking out of the charge followed the government’s application to discontinue the proceedings at the Federal High Court, with a fresh arraignment planned at the FCT High Court.
