Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Kano State governor and vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has appealed to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support the coalition’s bid for the presidency.
Kwankwaso made the appeal on Monday at his residence in Abuja while speaking with members of the Fulani Farmers Association.
The former governor reportedly urged Atiku to step aside for the emerging political alliance, assuring him that he would be adequately taken care of if the coalition succeeds in winning the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso’s appeal comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures and groups exploring possible alliances to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development is likely to intensify discussions within opposition circles over the choice of presidential candidate, particularly as Atiku and other prominent politicians weigh their options ahead of the election.
