The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has intensified enforcement of Nigeria’s Cabotage regulations as part of efforts to deepen indigenous participation and strengthen local capacity in the maritime sector.
The Agency said the renewed enforcement would focus on ensuring strict compliance with statutory requirements governing vessel ownership, registration, manning and construction under Nigeria’s Cabotage regime.
NIMASA noted that all vessels, owners, operators, charterers, managers and other stakeholders engaged in Cabotage activities are required to comply with applicable laws and regulations and maintain valid licences, certificates and registrations.
According to the Agency, it will continue to monitor activities within the Cabotage sector and take appropriate enforcement action against individuals, companies or vessels found to be in breach of the Cabotage Act and other applicable regulations.
NIMASA stressed that compliance with the Cabotage framework is essential to promoting indigenous ownership and participation, creating opportunities for Nigerian maritime operators and developing the capacity of local seafarers and businesses.
The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a stronger, more compliant and sustainable Nigerian maritime industry, noting that effective enforcement of Cabotage regulations remains critical to unlocking the country’s maritime and blue economy potential
