Gov Eno Defies Rain to Inspect Projects, Orders Faster Completion Across Akwa Ibom
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Monday braved heavy rain to carry out his routine inspection of ongoing government projects across Eket and Nsit Ubium Local Government Areas, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to quality project delivery and directing contractors to complete critical road and bridge projects before December 2026.
The inspection tour, held on July 6, took the Governor through several strategic infrastructure and public service projects, where he trekked across marshy terrain to personally assess the pace and quality of work, issuing on-the-spot directives to contractors where necessary.
Speaking with Government House Correspondents after the exercise, Governor Eno explained that the inspection was aimed at verifying the level of work on site against progress reports earlier presented by the Commissioner for Works during the state’s recent Delivery Meeting.
He noted that the project inspections have become a hallmark of his administration’s monitoring strategy, stressing that his visit to Nsit Ubium followed his stay in his hometown over the weekend, making it convenient to assess projects within the area and neighbouring Eket.
The Governor expressed satisfaction with the progress made since his last visit but challenged contractors to intensify efforts to ensure timely completion without compromising quality.
He urged them to maximise available time and explore round-the-clock work schedules where necessary to meet agreed deadlines.
“I like seeing things for myself. That’s why I’m here to look at the quality and the extent of progress of their work to motivate them to do more and deliver as expected.
“They have made progress, but I will be much more impressed when I take delivery of the projects. But then, from what we have seen so far, we have reasons to believe that they will deliver to the expected standard and timeline,” the Governor stated.
Governor Eno specifically directed that the ongoing 2.4-kilometre Afriyo Road and the 120-metre bridge linking Nsit Ubium and Eket Local Government Areas, alongside other major road projects, should be ready for commissioning before December 2026.
Responding on behalf of the contractors, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Amitec Construction and Development Limited, Mr. Aiman Saimua, assured the Governor that the company had put effective mechanisms in place to ensure the timely completion of the projects in line with government specifications.
Projects inspected during the tour included the ongoing Counter Terrorism Unit facility, the 2.4-kilometre Afriyo Road and its 120-metre bridge connecting Nsit Ubium and Eket, the General Hospital and Model Primary School in Nsit Ubium, as well as the dualisation of the 11.6-kilometre Ikot Imoh–Strabag Junction–Eket Road.
The inspection underscores Governor Eno’s hands-on approach to governance and his administration’s determination to ensure that public infrastructure projects are delivered on schedule, meet required standards, and provide lasting benefits to the people of Akwa Ibom State.
