The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council (EXCO) has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the implementation of key developmental projects across critical sectors, including transportation, aviation, power, healthcare and social welfare, as part of efforts to deepen the delivery of the ARISE Agenda.
The decisions were reached during the regular Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the Executive Council Chambers, Governor’s Office, Uyo, with Governor Umo Eno presiding.
In his opening remarks, Governor Eno thanked God for the peaceful and successful conduct of the recent party primaries and noted that the meeting underscored the administration’s determination to effectively implement projects and programmes that would positively impact the lives of Akwa Ibom people.
The Governor also welcomed the newly appointed Special Adviser on Aviation and Airport Development to the Executive Council and charged members to remain committed and diligent in the discharge of their duties.
As part of its resolutions, the Council ratified memoranda presented by the Finance and General Purpose Committee relating to the delivery of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses currently at the Lagos Seaport, the construction of a passenger terminal at the CNG Mega Station located at Ikot Akpan/Obio Offot in Uyo Local Government Area, and the recapitalisation of Anchor Insurance Limited.
Following a presentation by the Special Adviser on Aviation and Airport Development, the Executive Council directed the newly established Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development to prepare and submit a comprehensive work plan outlining clear milestones, supplementary budget proposals, management strategies, commercial opportunities, revenue projections, and sustainability plans.
The Council also moved to strengthen the state’s electricity sector by approving immediate measures to facilitate the operational take-off of the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission. It directed the provision of essential facilities and the preparation of a detailed work plan and budget, while maintaining an 18-month target for delivering efficient and reliable power supply across the state.
On healthcare, EXCO received a briefing from the Commissioner for Health on preparations for the official unveiling of the Ibom Medical City Project scheduled for June 23, 2026. The project includes the construction of a 350-bed international hospital alongside pharmaceutical and laboratory facilities.
Governor Eno commended the initiative, describing it as a transformative healthcare investment, and encouraged residents to position themselves to benefit from the economic and employment opportunities expected to emerge from the project.
The Council also reviewed a report from the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and the Bulk Purchase Agency and approved the commencement of the fourth phase of free food distribution to vulnerable persons captured in the State Social Register. The exercise is expected to begin before the end of June and will cover all 31 local government areas of the state.
In the legislative sector, EXCO noted the transmission of twelve Executive Bills to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and commended the Speaker and members of the Assembly for promptly commencing deliberations and public hearings on the proposed laws.
Council further received a report from the Dean of Commissioners, Rt. Hon. Frank Archibong, on the outcome of the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries. Members commended Akwa Ibom people for their peaceful participation and overwhelming support that produced President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno as the party’s flag bearers in their respective contests.
The Governor expressed appreciation to the people of the state for their continued support and urged all eligible citizens to participate in voter registration, describing it as both a civic duty and constitutional responsibility.
